[MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS - Other Rights] Re: My Letter to SFO regarding Parking at International Terminal

So guess what? The manager of the SFO International garage called me up and we had a chat. Here is what I found out.

1. They are re-training their employees to make sure they can handle individual bikes.
2. They have a plan drawn up on how to deal with groups of motorcycles coming in together.
3. They want us to work with them to develop a smooth way to implement the plan.

Not all of the details in the group motorcycle parking plan are complete, but the idea is that they will provide a special motorcycle only area for groups of motorcycles coming in for specific purposes (ex: to welcome home a returning soldier). For our part, we will have to coordinate our arrival with their contact person, but that is sort of obvious.

Cool huh? See, we can work this stuff out when we try.

Why not join the MMA or A.B.A.T.E. organization near you and be part of the solution.

[MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS - Noise Issues] About Sound Advice

So what do YOU think about this National Summit on Motorcycle Sound that the AMA set up.

Personally I think it is a good idea to keep the noise down. I'm not sold on "loud pipes saves lives" since if that were true, how do you explain people hitting fire engines and ambulances (something I have witnessed). But I get really ticked off when motorcycles get singled out since where I live, hopped up pick-up trucks are a much bigger noise nuisance.

What do you think (read this first http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/Sound_Advice.asp)?

This isn't exactly an Access Denied issue, but it is close.

UK bikers are organizing to fight tolls and other taxes that are being imposed on them by default (because of proposed changes to motor vehcicle access laws).

[MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS - Other Rights] My Letter to SFO regarding Parking at International Terminal

Saturday evening (10-20-2007), 13 motorcycles arrived at SFO ridden by members of the Patriot Guard Riders to meet two US soldiers returning from Iraq (one of whom had been injured).

While greeting and saying farewell to other soldiers has never been a problem (due to motorcycle friendly parking in the main parking lot), this experience was anything but acceptable.

The first problem we encountered was ticket dispensers at the garage entrance that do not recognize motorcycles. This was aggravated by the signs indicating such an requiring us to call for an attendant because the attendants apparently have zero training regarding what to do.

After eventually being admitted "without tickets" we rode to the top floor where crammed up-to four motorcycles into each spot so as not to be inconsiderate of others.

After greeting our returning heroes, we proceeded to the garage exit to pay. There we discovered un-trained cashiers who not only charged us $9 per bike (ignoring the "per-stall" rule on their signs), but took about 15 minutes just to figure out what to do, all the time on the phone to a supervisor who was not interested in customer service. I will also mention that during this time, the exit to the entire garage was blocked by all this confusion and not only caused a safety hazard, but also inconvenienced many other patrons of this garage.

When the contract for International Parking comes up for renewal, please remember that motorcycles are increasingly using your facilities and that these situations are not tolerable.

Thank You
