Yamaha Motor Co. will introduce two high-end bikes to India
Because of import tariffs, the motorcycles will cost as much as higher end cars in India. The tariffs were a key decider in Harley-Davidson's decision to NOT sell in India.

But evidently, Yamaha sees a potential market growing as the strategy is to use these sales to begin building a service and sales support infrastructure.

Honda and Suzuki Motor Co. have said they expect to sell their bikes in India as well.

SFO Responds to PGR Parking Complaint
A few weeks back I posted a blog entry about the problems that the Patriot Guard Riders encountered parking at the SFO International terminal for a soldier's welcome home ride. Well, that letter was answered.

In fact, it was not only answered, but it triggered action. The manager of the garage very graciously contacted us and aplogized for the confusion. But even better, he has actually been working to resolve these issues.

It seems that in the future, the airport will (when properly cooridnated) provide special, free, parking to motorcycle groups coming to the airport for special events (for example to welcome home returning soldiers).

There is still some work to be done to get the final plans in place before the next PGR mission, but it looks like these issues are all being addressed in a timely fashion.

Our congratulations to the manager and employees at the International Terminal garage for working with the motorcycle community to resolve these issues.

New Book Links Motorcycle Radiation to Cancer Risk
MOTORCYCLE CANCER? Are motorcycles KILLING US with cancers of the prostate, colon, kidney, bone, etc? by Randall Dale Chipkar
I am not making this up folks. This gut claims that electomagnetic radiation generated by motorcydle electronics is send waves through us that are strong enough to cause cancer.

I am very skeptical of this, but read this before you make up YOUR mind.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/
"The industry needs to recognize this EM danger and implement protective measures to minimize rider radiation exposure. Consumer safety is priority. An EMF radiation shielding seat can provide riders with peace of mind," he says.
I don't know. What do YOU think?

The One Veteran's Day Story You Must Read
This story is about a veteran and a biker. It is not my story. It is the story of the Marlboro Marine as told Luis Sinco, Times Staff Photographer. I'm not even going to try and quote it. Just go here and read it.

Rescue operation aims to save a wounded warrior

This is the second of two parts and I plan to sit down with the first.

Von Dutch for Sale... the Real Deal
Actually, the sale was earlier today so that should say, "Von Dutch Sold"!

The items included a bike once owned by Steve McQueen! Von Dutch the person (Kenneth Howard) died in 1992, but the legend (and logo) lives on.
The items include several hand-painted motorcycles, signs and advertising work, and clothing. According to the Bonhams & Butterfields press release, the most personal and prized possession is a customized crash helmet: "A work in progress for over four decades, he engraved this helmet with a motorcycle's marque each time he acquired or worked on one of that marque. Atop that helmet is an actual baby's pacifier that Von Dutch added as a jibe at California's helmet law."

Bikers rally to donate toys for Christmas
There are 3 things you can count on this time of the year. Thanksgiving turkey to make you fat, football to keep you entertained, and bikers to make sure kids have a great Christmas. This year will not be any different with many rallies around the US gathering gifts for children who otherwise might miss out one one of the most special times for a child, Christmas morning.

And just to make the point, check out this story from Pittsburg's Morning Sun:
Something just seems wrong to see a biker wearing black leather pull up on his Harley-Davidson motorcyle — with a stuffed bear strapped to the back seat.

But that was a common sight Saturday afternoon at Big Lots as riders from the area joined to donate toys to the Community Christmas Program — a joint venture between The Salvation Army and Wesley House.

Saudi Arabia hosts first HOG Rally
Saudi Arabia has just held it's first EVER Harley-Davidson Owners Group rally. The Harley is ever popular in the kingdom but this was their first official HOG rally.
Ten years of Harley Davidson’s presence in Saudi Arabia is being marked by the first official Harley Owners Group (HOG) rally to be held in the Kingdom. Over 200 HOG members participated in three days of motorcycle mania starting in Jeddah and continuing up to Durrat Al-Aroos beach resort 60 km to the city’s north.
The whole story is available here: Arab News

Ed. We would love to get some reports of how the rally was and (more importantly) how was the riding?

The All Wheel Drive Motorcycle
I have to admit I am very skeptical that this will work out or catch on. BUT, the (moto-cross) riders who were interviewed that have tried it love it.
Philadelphia-based Christini has begun to market a drivetrain that can apply power from the engine to the front wheel of motorcycles. A second chain turns the front wheel so that riders can get through sand, snow, mud or uneven terrain more easily.

"I love it. It is a total advantage," said Mike Bergman, a professional motocross racer who's raced twice on motorcycles equipped with Christini's drivetrain. "Let's say you come into a rough corner with deep ruts, it will pull you right around it."
